I started by taking pictures of people in my community, and I never put the camera down. I still carry one every day. I’m inspired by life, and I like to tell stories with my camera.
My work started in the 1960s, and I’ve been doing it ever since. I came up during a time when a lot was happening, civil rights, protests, people trying to be heard, and that stayed with me. It shaped how I see and what I pay attention to.
